Definition:
Aramid fiber, also known as aromatic polyamide, is a type of synthetic fiber that is both heat-resistant and strong. It is made up of long-chain synthetic polyamide with at least 85% of the amide linkages directly attached to two aromatic rings. Aramid fibers are considered high-performance fibers due to their inherent flame and heat resistance, with a melting point exceeding 500°C. In addition, these synthetic fibers exhibit exceptional mechanical properties, surpassing those of steel and glass fibers when compared on an equal weight basis. Aramid fiber is extensively utilized across various industries, including aerospace and military sectors, for applications such as ballistic-rated body armor fabric, ballistic composites, marine cordage, marine hull reinforcement, asbestos substitutes, and lightweight consumer products like phone cases and tennis rackets.
